Friday Randomness

I usually try (operative word here being 'try' and ignoring the fact that I tend to ramble...) to keep my blog posts somewhat short as I hate to take up too much of your time but I have a feeling that I'm going to fail miserably today...

As Mouse always says, grab a cuppa and visit for a little. And remember... you're laughing WITH me, not AT me. HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

I was just telling my friend, Brenda, a little bit ago that I'm getting old and forgetful. Last night, I filled up the electric kettle, as I usually do, for the morning coffee, before wandering off. This was the conversation a few seconds later:

Hubby (from the kitchen): Why is the kettle on?

Me: What do you mean?

Hubby: The kettle is on...

Me: *walks over and looks at the blue light, like it's grown an alien eye*

Hubby: *probably thinking... "Don't tell me she's making coffee at 1am!"*

Me: HAHA!!! I put it on for tomorrow and turned it on without thinking. Getting old sucks!!!

It's only going to get worse, isn't it? One day, I'm going to walk out of the house naked and not even realize it!!

Speaking of getting old, hubby's birthday is less than 2 months away. To celebrate, we're taking a trip to Busch Gardens! It's something that's been on the agenda for the last few years, but being such homebodies, we kept putting it off. I'm please to say that THIS is the year! I've booked the hotel room and planned out the trip. We're going to leave early on Oct. 18th and drive to Legoland for the day, and then head to Tampa for the next couple of days. It's going to be so much fun and we're definitely excited!! :D

Of course, what's a trip without a new camera? I should qualify that by saying my trusty little Canon Elph is more than 8 years old and is starting to take pictures that are blurry at the bottom. :( I've been wanting to get a new camera for a couple of years now but can't decide between a DSLR or point and shoot. I like the idea of a DSLR, but they're kinda pricey and I don't know if I'd use that to its full potential.

After lots of research and reviews reading (yeah, I'm one of those people, I have to know (almost) EVERYTHING before I purchase), we finally decided on a Panasonic Lumix. Amongst its many features are 3D pictures. No idea how that's suppose to work, but we'll find out. I know I'll be reading the manual from cover to cover. ;)

Hey, Poppy Poo's pictures next week will be with the new camera. Hope they turn out well.

Speaking of Poppy Poo, or Poopy Pop, I took a picture of her this morning. Not much has change since the last picture, in all honesty. But since I had the camera out, I thought it was worth a shot. :) The lighting is much better this time around. Many of you wanted to know about the fabbie. It's PTP's "Dawn" 32ct opalescent lugana.

I have 2 more colors to do on her skirt and then it's on to the skin. Her left arm needs quite a bit of smoothing out and I'm definitely not looking forward to that. Blargh!!

She's almost midway now, which is usually my favorite part of a project, and it's at this stage that momentum starts to kick in. YIPPPEEEE!!! I love being able to see what has been accomplished and imagine what is to come. Hopefully I won't be too distracted by gaming this weekend. ;)

Which segue me to a pic of my embermage and her trusty falcon, Pierce. On the sidebar is a portrait of the Berserker I created. Crazilla seemed an apropos name for her.

Earlier this month, I was shocked to receive an email from Robin informing me that I had won one of her giveaways! The goodies were beautifully packaged and it's going to be fun finding uses for them. :D Thanks, Robin!!!

Because the winter sun is starting to peek its lovely head into my balcony again, I went out with my morning coffee for a quick visit with the plants. Look at how every single flower on this oncidium is growing upside down! I had to send my dad a pic, it's so odd!

While watering the other day, I saw a rather fat leaf stem on my elephant ears. Imagine my joy and surprise this morning when I discovered that it is flowering!!!! A quick Google search yielded no information on this topic. Apparently they don't flower? I'm chalking this up as a wonderful gift from God. :)

I don't think I showed you guys a pic of our new lounger. The gravity chair we had was so old and every time I leaned back on it, it'd tilt forward again. I guess it just didn't like me cos it worked just fine for hubby. ;)

We didn't like the outdoor rug we had hanging on the wall anymore, so we bought a $25 reed fence from Home Depot and added it to the front of the rug. Much better!! :D

We get such beautiful weather in the winter months and I'm looking forward to sitting out here again. I'm trying to decide about getting a floor stand so I can stitch out here. That might be nice. :)

On the topic of God's gifts, this was what we were blessed with on the drive home last night. We'll be seeing sunsets such as these for the next couple of months and they never fail to remind me of of God's love and majesty.

Well, this has been long. Thanks for sticking it out with me. :) And what's a Friday Randomness post without something hunky and cute? ;)

A Poppy Update

Hey!!! I typed the title correctly, ROFL!! Too little too late though, as she's now being called Poopy by friends and The Maiden has dubbed her Poppy Poo. Haha!!

I've been kinda good, despite the new game ;), and actually spent Sunday afternoon stitching.

She's not going as quickly as the previous pixies, and the colors are kinda messed up as well (the flash kept going off). There are three shades of red and one shade of pink in there.

I'm trying to make it a sort of "best-of-both-worlds" situation. Right now though, the gaming world is getting more love. ;) Speaking of the Torchlight 2, I forgot to take a screenshot of my embermage, who is about level 40++ right now. Is it a good sign that I can't remember the exact number? ;)

Off to catch up on blogs again.

September IHSW Report

LINKIE LINK for September's hermitters.

I can't believe we have said goodbye to our 9th IHSW weekend of 2012. Boy, oh boy, has this year flown by or what?

How were your weekends? Did you guys get some some stitching in amidst your busy schedules? Did you get to hermit or did the male help provide too much distraction? ;)

I got quite a bit of stitching done this weekend, although, I spent all of Friday night reading and finishing Nalini Singh's latest book, Archangel's Storm. I simply could not put it down! I love when books do that to me. :D

I started Saturday by working on the finishing (tutorial can be found HERE) for Gardenia and told hubby that my IHSW is not heading towards a good start since it was already 3pm and I haven't done a single stitch. He said that since Gardenia was a cross stitch, that counted. Smart man! :D

We decided to go tone on tone with her and found a fabric that was the same color as her dress for the backing. Some brown ribbon to accent the green and match her hair and ta-dah!!

Jo wanted to see a picture of the pixies that are currently finished together, so I took a pic of them on the closet walls. Ivy, Sweet Pea, and Fern were all stitched on PTP's Ancient, and when everything is done, they'll be split up for diversity. You can see the actual color of Chrysalis' green in this picture.

Now, on to what I did this weekend. Poo (You guys would be interested to know that hubby has taken to calling Poppy just that... LOL!!!) Let me try again... Poppy is taking me longer than expected. There are lots of red swirls on her and my eyes get tired very quickly. Maybe I'm not used to stitching with red?... The color in the "Before" is closer to real life. I had to use a flash this morning for the "After" pic cos it's cloudy here today.

Before

After

I was hoping to get her almost done after the weekend, since Torchlight 2 is due out this coming Thursday, but that's going to be very unlikely. On this subject, I haven't decided what character to play yet, but it's between the Berserker and the Embermage.

If I go the route of the berserker, and even though there is a female version of the class, I'm thinking of playing a male version and picking the Papillon as his pet. Maybe I'll name it "Fifi." What do you guys think? I wonder if someone would mod pet accessories for the game. A studded collar for Fifi would sure be nice...

Friday Randomness - IHSW Version

Are you guys ready for some quiet stitching time?? Just your needle and you, putting gorgeous, colorful fibers to equally gorgeous fabric.

(If you haven't yet, it's not too late to sign up for September's IHSW!)

Remember, we're HERMITTING. Just us and our beloved stitching. Closing out the world and letting everyone else fend for themselves for a little while. We surely deserve that, right?

Although, things might come to a standstill without some help. I mean, how can we be expected to keep our strength up if we're not fed? The housework isn't going to miraculously get done. We might need a drink every now and then!!! What if the frog visits???!! What are hermitters to do????!!!!

Don't you worry, I have you covered...

I've heard that he cooks barely edible meals, but who cares!!!
It's not that hard to get crackers out of a box.

Yeah, that's a great pose... FREEZE!

I know drinking and stitching is a bad combo, but just look at that smile!

I'm sure this guy is good at catching frogs...

Best milkshake in town!

HAPPY HERMITTING, EVERYONE!!! :D

Random Afternoon Question

Don't you wish that with all the good friends we've made in blog land, you could hear what they sound like? Put a voice to the face and 'hear' their voices in your head when you're reading their blog?

Well... in the case of Kate of Momuboocrea Island, wish no more! She put up a podcast yesterday as part of her Blogoversary celebration and I freaking LOVE her accent!!! What a cutie she is! I finally learnt the origins of her blog title... how inventive! :D

Head on over and have a listen. She's looking for Christmas ornie exchange pals and I know that for a lot of you, that's right up your alley. :D

Ignore all her mentions of me. I'm humbled and flattered and thoroughly embarrassed! :S

BTW, some stitching news on my end, I have blobs of red with the Poo Poppy start. I keep doing that!!  Every time I type Poppy, it comes out Poopy... what's up with that??! LOL!!

Gardenia - A Finish

I haven't done one of these posts in awhile... feels almost kinda weird. LOL! Holy schmoly!!! I just looked up the last thing I finished and it was 5 months ago!!

"Gaming is bad! Very, very bad!!!!" she says, and then whispers with glee that "Torchlight 2 will be out in 10 days!" ;)

May I present... Gardenia! The last bead went in at the wee hours of dawn. I wish the fabric photographed better, but for the life of me, I just can't get the light lemon-lime green to show up. :(

The Particulars: Gardenia by Mirabilia
Fabric: Chrysalis, 32ct hand-dyed opalescent lugana by Picture This Plus
Stitched 2 over 2
Floss: DMC, Caron Waterlilies, Kreinik
Beads: Mill Hill
Started: August 29th, 2012
Finished: September 9th, 2012

I had some doubtful moments with her as I really disliked how she looked when I just had her dress and wings stitched. For a few hours there I was actually asking myself why I ever thought of stitching her, and I've never had such a moment!

Fortunately, once the skin went it, everything started looking up. LOOOOVE those flowers in her hair. For me, they make the piece. :D

I didn't have to smooth out her skin too much, which was great. Rounded her left shoulder a little so it didn't look like it was dislocated, but that was about it.

This brings the pixie count for our closet up to four. Just three or four more to go, depending on space. Next up, Poppy! :D

September IHSW

Hellooooooo hermitters!!! The weekend is almost upon us!! Ready to close out the world and have a little "me" time? I know I am. It's only Monday and already I've about had enough of this week. LOL!

I'm not sure what I'll be stitching this week, since I just finished Gardenia. What's that I said?? A finish!! YES!! I'll do a separate post for her in a little bit here, but I wanted to get Hermie up first.

You know what to do. ;)

Friday Randomness

The weekend's almost here!!! I plan on doing nothing and just relaxing, with quite a bit of stitching thrown in, hopefully. How about you guys? Any plans?

I thought I'd do another 'kitchen sink' sort of post today, but first...

Kate's first blogoversary is just around the corner, and she's hosting a GIVEAWAY!!! Head on over to celebrate and join in the fun. You enter by linking back to your blog. How ingenious is she?? :D

Yes, I'm bad. I haven't entered 'cos, as you guys well know, I hardly stash; which means, one less stitcher to stab and climb over vie for that $25 123stitch.com GC and a surprise. I have to say though, that the 'surprise' intrigues me. Hmm... maybe I'll enter after all!! ;)

For my birthday last year, Heidi sent me an original artwork. A lion she drew just for me. Well... I've been waiting a whole year to add to my collection and when she asked me if I wanted art or stitching for my birthday this year, I jumped on the chance for another art piece. ;) This is the beauty she sent me.... I am SOOO in love!!! I could, and have, just stood in front of him and stared. Still do in fact.

They are both displayed on what I call my "Heidi Wall" and fish feeding takes up a lot more time nowadays with all the staring that goes on. :D

I did tell her that my "Heidi Wall" looks very empty, and since I've never been one for b'day presents DURING my birthday, she should feel free to send me some early presents. HAHAHA!!

Oh, here's a picture of Diablo dead in the Inferno level. This could be considered the end game since he's (she? IT has boobs!!!) the last boss at the last difficulty level. But that's more of a formality for me since the end game for me in this series has always been the getting the best gears.

Finally, what's a Friday post without some cuteness right? For your perusal and enjoyment, I give you:

Pick your poison! ;) Have a wonderful weekend everyone!! :D

A Random Afternoon Question Hijack

Before the hijacking begins, I want to apologize for giving you guys a scare with my last post!!

I couldn't resist having some fun with you guys. I know, I'm so bad!!! I had giggling fits writing that up and fully expected the laughs and the threats, but your shock and dismay humbled me. I promise I won't go too far away (even when Torchlight 2 comes out Sept. 20th), I miss you guys too damn much!!

Huh wha? New game??! I don't know what you're talking about and where you got that idea... LOL!!!!

I suppose I could throw a question in with today's post... it is Wednesday after all...

Wanna see a WIP?

Your wish... my command. :D Here is Gardenia after the long weekend. Though I have to confess, I hardly stitched on Sunday and Monday. Spent some time playing on Sunday and Monday (Labor Day) was spent bumming around being anything but laborious. ;)

I wish the color of the fabbie would photograph better. It looks almost white in the pic. You can see a hint of it on the scrolled up part at the bottom. I hope it photographs better when she's done.

I've also been catching up with your posts on my Google Reader. It's still flashing 1000+ post at me after all these days, but I'm going to get to the bottom of it!! I might not comment much, but I am reading them all. :)
